Sonker is a centuries-old dessert and tradition in Surry County, North Carolina. The dessert usually consists of cooked fruit and a crust, and is prepared in various ways depending upon family tradition. The heritage food dish is highlighted by the Surry Sonker Trail and Sonker Festival in Mount Airy.

This Yadkin Valley region offers a number of activities to visitors. There are thirty-six wineries in the region and Surry County, with twelve, is considered the heart of the region. The article lists a number of them. There are small towns like Mt. Airy that have interesting shops and restaurants and there are activities for outdoor enthusiasts.

Abstract:
Goerch describes Surry County as a place of history, agriculture, and industry. He states that \"it has been the mother and grandmother of eleven other counties in the northwestern part of the state.\" Mrs. Ellen M. Marshall, aunt of President of Herbert Hoover, lived in White Plains, and Pilot Mountain can be seen from many parts of the county. Chatham Manufacturing Company, located at Elkin, is the county's largest business, and it the best known blanket makers in the country.
