Abstract:
"Nearly 150 years after the USS Huron sank off Nags Head, weather and water still dictate her fate." Commissioned in 1875 as one of the country's last iron warships, the ship ran aground in 1877 just 200 yards off the Nags Head coast. Joe Friday and Sandy Sanderson helped secure a heritage designation for the Huron.
