Abstract:

Wright discusses the resurgence of railroad travel in North Carolina and the interest of many towns in restoring the old train stations either as functioning rail stations or for use in other capacities. Many of the stations already rescued and renovated include Greensboro's 1924 station and others in Selma, High Point, Wilson, and Hamlet. Rocky Mount's 1893 station is the oldest one still in use in North Carolina.

Abstract:

The Hamlet passenger station was built in 1990 for the Seaboard Airline Railroad and is the only Victorian Queen Anne passenger station in North Carolina. Because of its history and unique architecture, the depot is known nationally and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. To preserve the depot, the city of Hamlet and the North Carolina Department of Transportation relocated and renovated the station.
