In Sept. 1898, Fane Tucker, a negro pauper woman, died aged 117 years of age. She was one year older than her mistress, Mrs. Sara Tucker, who died in 1873, aged ninety-one. Lem Teel, Fane’s brother who is in the poor house, is about 100 years old.
John E. C. Godley, who claimed to be 104 years old on June 6, 1902. He claimed to be a veteran of the War of 1812-15, the Seminole War in Florida, the Mexican War and the Civil War. He had been married twice and had five children. He was a root and herb doctor who made wonderful soap.
John Allen, age 104 in 1876, was born on Oct. 9, 1771 at sea when his parents were coming from England to America. He left his home near Greenville, NC and walked for a year to Huntington, WV.
In June 1840, Edwin Gorham, Esq., of Tranter’s Creek District, owned a slave named Boston, who was 107 years old. He served in the Army in the Revolution as a servant to Major McClure.
According to articles in 1942, Della Parker, b. 1841, was a slave owned by Joe Laughinghouse of Pitt County, NC. Her sister, Lucy Thompson, b. 1839 in Africa, lived in Pamlico Co., NC.
Charles Harris, died June 3, 1897 aged 96 years, son of Charles Harris who died at age 108;
Mrs. Betsy Harris, d. April 1897, wife of Tommy Harris of Farmville Township;
May Harris, dau. of J. S. Harris, of near Falkland, married Dec. 16, 1896 to Robert Whitehead, of Wilson, NC.
Died on June 27, 1878, Joab Smith, of Pitt County, about age 100 years; m.1) Millie Sermons; m.2) in 1847 to Pollie Elks. He was a soldier in the War of 1812.
An abstract of Revolutionary War service of Loderick Teel , b. Oct. 7, 1754 in Pitt County; his 1850 listing in Alabama and a mention of him in Coosa Co., AL from 1853.
