The North Carolina Division of Environmental Management has released the “1988 N. C. Lakes Monitoring Report,” which integrates information on lakes from several state agencies, including the Ambient Lakes Monitoring Program. The report covers fifty-five lakes sampled from 1983 to 1987. This article provides a summary and table of information on the lakes, water quality conditions, and drinking water supply sources.

The North Carolina Clean Water Loan and Grant Fund of 1987 was created by the General Assembly to provide low-interest loans and some grants to local governments for construction of wastewater and water supply projects. The Division of Environmental Management is accepting applications for a broad range of activities. Details about the program are provided in this article.

The North Carolina Division of Environmental Management revised their 1985 report on animal operations and water quality to include recommendations that could bring about an increase in the number of North Carolina animal operations designated “concentrated” and thereby potentially subject to National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System permit regulations. The recommended changes would also result in better data for determining the impact animal operations have on the state’s water quality.
