After Hurricane Florence, NC State University's School of Architecture assisted in providing affordable housing designs for Duffyfield's redevelopment project. The New Bern, North Carolina housing community also saw assistance from the North Carolina Sea Grant and students from the University of North Carolina Chapel Hill's capstone class.

The promise of better food through science was recognized in two initiatives promising to generate growth in jobs, markets for farmers, and manufacturing. One was the Plant Sciences Initiative, the other the Food Processing Innovation Center. Collectively, they promised to produce greater crop numbers, pioneer crop varieties, and lower farm animals’ feed expense. Collectively, they may also help to assure the supply of food needed to feed the world’s population, projected to be 9.6 billion by 2050.

Universities across North Carolina have an eclectic approach when it comes to their degree programs. Recognizing the collective student body’s transformation in the past few decades, universities such as NC State and High Point University are trying to better meet their students’ needs. Examples include NC State’s MBA collaboratories, or half day workshops involving field experts and senior leaders, and High Point’s MBA courses, which are typically twenty minute lecture, two hour and forty minute group discussion and interaction.

North Carolina State University’s Memorial Belltower was built to honor alumni who were killed in battle in World War I. The tower was designed by William Henry Deacy and construction began November 10, 1921. Currently, the belltower is often used as a gathering place for celebrations. The history of the memorial since WWI is detailed.

The United States is the world’s leading blueberry producer, the roots of which lie in North Carolina. In 1940’s Pender County, a farmer named Harold Graham Huntington worked with NC State University biologists in order to create disease-resistant strains of blueberry. Huntington’s farm helped lay the foundation for the blueberry industry in the United States.

Reducing recidivism for ex-offenders were programs such as the NC State Industry Expansion Solutions (IES). Through this program, they earn a Lean Manufacturing Certificate. Attesting to the success of this program were statistics related to job growth and economic impact. Asserting its necessity were statistics related to the likelihood of recidivism in the absence of employment.

More about Moravians can be mined in the million pages plus of documents chronicling everyday life in nearly every day detail. How manuscripts are conserved can be better understood by factors accounting for their unique appearance and unusual fragility.

Efforts to make the college campus a home away from home can be perceived in Lees-McRae’s pet policy. This policy can be perceived in the animals that students are allowed to have in buildings such as the Banner Elk School. The welcoming of pets can be measured in the Pet Council, which enforces rules and handles complaints. It is also reflected in the policy that distinguishes between an assistance animal and a pet.
