Moore County, once a retirement mecca, is now known for its opportunities in education, health care employment, and tourism. These opportunities, along with a proximity to Fort Bragg, led to this county having the best rural economy in the state and Pinehurst/Southern Pines rising to 27 in an economic-strength ranking of micropolitan communities.

Moore County is diversifying its economy beyond the county's famous golf courses and the company, R. Riveter, represents this change. R. Riveter employs military wives to stitch bags and other accessories using recycled Army materials, a job these women can do from home. The county hopes to expand the economy to rebuild their tax base and attract more young families and entrepreneurs.
