Abstract:
Presented are several documents in the Cherokee language about the life at the Echota Methodist Mission on Qualla Boundary in the middle of the 19th century. Most of the documents were written by Inoli a Methodist preacher and keeper of the townhouse records. The documents discuss minutes from Sunday School, the conversions of members to the church, and information about early Christian figures.

George Washington Ivey was an unassuming, unsophisticated, old-fashioned Methodist circuit rider, but his life’s work entitles him to be ranked as a truly great citizen of the state. Thirty years after his death, he is still remembered fondly for his eccentricities.

There are many Asbury churched in North Carolina: this particular one with the interesting minute book is located down I Robeson County. This minute book contains such entries and marginal notes as detailed accounts of the church’s parishioners and those who are no longer members.
