Love Valley, located in Iredell County, is the \"Cowboy Capital of North Carolina.\" The town was the dream of Andy Barker, who started it in 1954. It requires that all buildings look one hundred years old and prohibits automobiles on the main street. The residents in this working Western town observe the Code of the West of loyalty and honesty.

Love Valley is the boyhood dream of Jetter Andrew Barker, Jr., who grew up wanting to build an old West town. In 1954, in the western North Carolina mountains, his dream became a reality in Love Valley. Buildings are required to look one hundred years old; cars are prohibited on main streets; and residents observe the Code of the West. Barker, now 76, has been mayor since 1954.

A book mentioned by Parker fulfilling these purposes is William Powell’s Gazetteer: A Dictionary of Tar Heel Places and Their History.
