Abstract:
Although mentioned little by historians, Henry McCullough was a champion for Scotch-Irish Presbyterians in North Carolina, who came from Ireland to escape religious persecution. McCullough secured land grants for settlement, covering a large part of the sand hills and Piedmont region of North Carolina, and named it Duplin.

Abstract:
A grant of $4 million was made to the Nature Conservancy’s Land Preservation Fund to purchase two undisturbed areas of North Carolina’s Outer Banks. The funds will be used to protect the Swan and Monkey Islands in Currituck County.

Abstract:
Margaret Hofmann of Halifax County has published a book titled PROVINE OF NORTH CAROLINA, 1663-1729, ABSTRACTS OF LAND PATENTS. The patents were used to convey land in Colonial America, and at least two Native Americans received such patents. Hofmann's first book was published in 1967, and she is currently working on a book of abstracts from the crown period.

The North Carolina Wildlife Resources Commission accepted a 965 acre tract of land from the Union Camp Corporation. In Gate County, the land will become part of the Commission’s game lands program.
