John Dee Holeman was born in Hillsborough in 1929. He was one of nine children, but the only one to have any interest in music. He worked as a heavy machine operator, all the while perfecting his style of blues. Cornell discusses Holeman's life and music career.

Abstract:
Longtime friends John Dee Holeman and Quentin \"Fris\" Holloway are self-taught bluesmen. Their style, which updates the Durham blues tradition, makes them much in demand. In 1994, they received a N.C. Folk Heritage Award for their contributions to the blues tradition.
