Abstract:

Sunset Park, a suburb of Wilmington, North Carolina, has a diverse architectural range of houses from 1912 to the 1960s. Preservation in Sunset Park can be seen in the homes that still retain their historical integrity, and the streets which are laid out in much the same way as the developer platted them in 1912.

Abstract:

The Burgwin-Wright house was built in 1771 by John Burgwin, a merchant and government official in Wilmington, North Carolina. The house also served as the headquarters of Cornwallis after his battle with Greene at Guilford court house. Dr. T.H. Wright was the second owner of the house.

Builder Robert B. Wood erected the Zebulon Latimer family house in 1852. The classical-revival house consisted of four floors, each with a large room, and a plainly-decorated interior.

Lea describes two historic Wilmington houses--Emerson-Kenan House (1911) and the Wise House (1908 - 1909)--that are used by the University of North Carolina at Wilmington. The first has been the home of the university chancellor since 1969, and the second serves as the university's Wiser Alumni House.
