Abstract:
Catch-and-release has become significant for anglers in North Carolina coastal waters. To preserve resources, state and federal regulations now determine limits for many saltwater game fish. There is also growing popularity of tagging programs that award money to fishermen and help scientists determine the age of fish.

The state/federal cooperative King Mackerel tagging program in the coastal waters of North Carolina expects to release over five-hundred tagged King Mackerel this season. Success of the project depends upon fishermen catching the tagged fish and reporting recaptures.

Striped bass were tagged and stocked in the Neuse River near New Bern in February. Fishermen returning tags will provide Marine Fisheries biologists with valuable information on fish biology, in addition to receiving a reward.
