Peter Weddick Moore, born in Duplin County, NC in slavery, became a noted teacher and became principal of the State Normal School for the Colored Race (now Elizabeth City State University). He received his M.A. and L.L.D from Shaw University and was a charter member and president of the North Carolina Negro Teachers’ Association.
