Lexington calls itself the “Barbecue Capital of North Carolina,” due to the number of barbecue restaurants in town, the annual barbecue festival, and the Bar B-Q Center restaurant. The Bar-B-Q Center, which opened in 1955, is one of the best-known barbecue joints in the country.

The Denton International Airport Annual Fly-In and Threshers' Reunion has been held in Davidson County on the Fourth of July for the last twelve years. Last year, over 500 antique engines were shown at the airport; the nearby moonshine still is operational but sampling is not allowed; and old-fashioned hoop cheese is made and sold to visitors. The newest attraction is the Handy Dandy Railroad, log railway terminal dating back to 1860. This year, over 20,000 visitors are expected at the fly-in.

Davidson’s greatest asset, preserve the past while integrating the present, had been charming prospective students and their families since its founding during the 18th century. Evidence of the town’s allure was the profiled restaurant, Kindred. The power extended both ways, as Kindred helped to boost the town tourist trade. In turn, these business owners felt a great pride in being part of the town originally named Davidson College.
