Abstract:
Watts discusses the work of the Piedmont Land Conservancy, which seeks to conserve farmlands, open spaces, and access to public spaces as well as private lands in the geographic center of North Carolina. Staff members tailor protection plans to meet the landowners' goals for their property. In its first twenty years, PLC has raised millions of dollars to protect over 17,700 acres.

As North Carolina deals with growing populations and increasing urbanization, it runs the risk of losing irreplaceable natural resources. State agencies are thus in active efforts to conserve these areas.
