Fuquay-Varina illustrator Michael Ryan is currently working with cult TV creator Joss Whedon on a comic for Marvel Comics. Ryan’s work has gained a lot of attention lately and he has worked with many well-known writers in comics. Runaways is the name of Ryan’s latest work and he describes what it is like to work on the comic and work in the comic book industry.

GeekCraft is an expo for crafters who specialize in geeky, nerdy things like science-fiction, steampunk, comic books, and fantasy. One of its co-founders is Morrisville’s Daniel Way, known for writing comics featuring the Marvel Comics character Dead Pool. GeekCraft Expo will occur in conjunction with Oak City Comicon the weekend of April 16-17.

NC Comicon began in Durham in 2010 and has grown from a small comic book show to a large convention in just five years. As the convention has grown, so has its organizers, who have learned how to support area comics retailers rather than see them as competition.

Darryl “D.M.C.” McDaniels, hip-hop legend of Run-D.M.C., is coming to Raleigh for the North Carolina Comicon: Oak City. Growing up as a Catholic schoolkid, comics helped McDaniels to express himself through rap and hip-hop. He founded Darryl Makes Comics and created a series of critically acclaimed graphic novels.

Larson is known for her original novels including a recent work entitled, All Summer Long, as well as her adaptations of iconic stories, such as Madeleine L’Engle’s, A Wrinkle in Time.
