The attorney with a twenty plus year work experience with nonprofits, political campaigns, and civic leaders discussed factors of her faith. Highlighted were her faith journey, the source of her optimism, and an experience that occurred while she was a sophomore at Berkeley.

Students at the University of North Carolina (UNC) at Asheville are playing a large role in shaping campus habits. The Student Environmental Center on campus has been advocating for sustainable living practices on campus and some of the initiatives include organizing a bicycle repair shop, implementing a compost program for residence halls, and gardening on campus. Other initiatives, awards the university has won, and the work of the students and the Office of Sustainability are detailed.

Efforts to make the college campus a home away from home can be perceived in Lees-McRae’s pet policy. This policy can be perceived in the animals that students are allowed to have in buildings such as the Banner Elk School. The welcoming of pets can be measured in the Pet Council, which enforces rules and handles complaints. It is also reflected in the policy that distinguishes between an assistance animal and a pet.

The gallery in Joyner Library honored Faulkner’s contributions in academia at her alma mater, as well as politics at the local and state levels. Purposes perhaps more down to earth reflected Faulkner’s belief that students need what she called a “nest,” a place that helped campus to feel more like home.

The man who could be considered Dr. Leo Jenkins’ right-hand man during his years as chancellor was James Tucker, dean of students. Described as having “an iron hand inside a velvet glove,” Tucker served as a capable leader during integration in the 1960s and student unrest a decade later. During his years as dean, Tucker also witnessed the establishment of the nursing school and introduction of computers on campus.

Manners, attitudes, gender communications, and the progress in sexual relations among young adults are discussed by University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill students. The questions and the student responses are prompted after a fraternity rush letter from Phi Gamma Delta was posted on campus detailing how joining the fraternity would help young men have sex. Fraternity members, non-fraternity members, young men, young women, and administrators discuss the sex on college campuses.
