Abstract:
The story of how the song started in 1862 in the Civil War, when a Union Army Captain Robert Ellicombe discovered his dead Confederate son after a battle. Ellicombe found musical notes on a piece of paper in his dead son’s uniform and he had a bugler play the musical notes at his funeral, now known as ‘Taps.’
