Abstract:

"The five 'lost' tax lists include a magistrate's list for a single district in 1784 and complete lists filed by the county clerk for 1791, 1795, 1797 and 1799. They supply much of what is lacking in Chowan County Taxables, 1780-1801, North Carolina State Archives."
