The accusation is that Easley used campaign money to pay for repairs on a house he owned while governor. A hearing last week revealed some of the corruption in North Carolina’s politics and within former Governor Mike Easley’s campaigns. The State Board of Elections fined Easley 100,000 for failing to report contributions and made a criminal referral to Wake County District Attorney for Easley’s false billing of campaign funds. Corruption and the influence of wealthy private citizens on politics in North Carolina are revealed in-depth. Easley’s campaign contributions are also the subject of a FBI investigation.
