Club Canine is a runner-up in the 2015 BUSINESS NORTH CAROLINA Small Business of the Year competition. Traci Whiteside opened the Caldwell County business in 2006 because she wanted to offer better care for dogs whose owners were on vacation. Club Canine provides day care and training for dogs and employs thirteen.

A sturgeon and caviar farm that was founded in 2004 in Happy Valley in Caldwell County, NC has just served its first sturgeon. The farm is the first in the state of North Carolina and only the fifth of its kind in the US. The farm raises Atlantic, Russian, and Siberian sturgeon and will sell its meat and caviar online, locally, and through a regional distributor. The process of raising the fish and the opinions of local chefs and consumers is explored.

There are twenty-four woodworking and allied industries in Lenoir--eleven are furniture manufacturing plants. There are four cotton mills in the county; smaller industries include a flour mill and several sawmills. The county has a large transportation system, and several motor freight and express lines operate from there. Agriculture is an important part of the economy, with big gains in livestock and growing dairy herds.
