Abstract:
"For more than half a century, student bus drivers helped North Carolina achieve one of the most efficient pupil transportation systems in the nation." North Carolina first began providing transportation to students in 1911. By 1928, every county in the state has provisions for transporting public school students. In 1966, the Fair Labor Standards Act prohibited the use of individuals under 18 as bus drivers. North Carolina and some other states received an exemption to this that lasted until 1988.
