Abstract:
One of the most remarkable industrial enterprises in North Carolina is the Burlington Mills Corporation. In multiple counties and states, Burlington Mills produces yarns, rayon fabrics, and hosiery knitting, and employs more than sixteen thousand men and women. They are also helping in the war effort with experimentation of new fabrics and man-made fibers.

Burlington Industries, a major participant in the textile industry since 1923, is a producer of cotton shirts, tweedy woolens, decorative fabrics, and men's socks, is based in Greensboro. An international, half-billion-dollar company, Burlington gives back to the state, offering employment and bolstering North Carolina's number one business.

Abstract:
Burlington Industries Inc. of Greensboro makes over seventy-five different types of fabric, none of which are used for apparel. Among them are fabrics used in typewriters, tires, snow fencing, flags, and even parts of blimps. Although some of the fabrics are bullet resistant and used in police vests, the material is not bullet proof and company officials shy from saying that it is.
