The Witherspoon Art Museum in Greensboro is celebrating its seventieth year of collecting modern art with a retrospective and companion catalog. The museum is home to one of the most significant collections of contemporary art in the Southeast, including works by Matisse, Picasso, Warhol, and de Kooning.

The University of North Carolina at Greensboro has one of the top 3 or 4 university collections of contemporary art in the nation. With the opening of the Anne and Benjamin Cone Building, UNCG’s Weatherspoon Gallery will now be more accessible to the general public who. While the new space and increased use of the facility the general public by is a good thing, some of the intimacy students associated with the gallery has been lost with the new building.

The Weatherspoon Gallery at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro has an outstanding collection of contemporary art. Herbert S. Falk, Sr., developed a benefactors program to finance the gallery’s growth. Substantial contributions have been made by Dillard Paper Company.
