Abstract:

Choreographer Vanessa Voskuil will be at this year’s American Dance Festival in Durham. She will hold auditions for performers to join the Footprints program. Ensemble members will learn one another’s personal and movement backgrounds while figuring out how to function together as a community to compose a manifesto.

This summer, the American Dance Festival (ADF) celebrates four decades of bringing global modern dance to Durham and Duke University. To resituate ADF’s wide modern impact, INDY compiled an oral history of the festival, from its birth in Vermont to the development of the ADF brand to its pivotal move to Durham and beyond.
