Abstract:
Alfred Williams was born in Franklin County in 1805 and moved to Raleigh when he was sixteen. Although Alfred Williams and Company today is synonymous with quality office furniture and supplies, it all began 150 years ago with the founding of a drugstore firm named Williams and Haywood.

Abstract:
Founded in 1867 in Raleigh during the chaotic period of Reconstruction, Alfred Williams and Company began as a school book supplier to Raleigh and rest of the state. Williams recounts the history of the firm which still remains in the family's hands. Over the years the company has added stationery, office equipment, and a typewriting, engraving and framing department.
