This article features the Museum of the Albemarle in Elizabeth City, NC. The Museum represents the life and history of people from 13 counties in northeastern North Carolina. The Museum has changing exhibits, special events and can be rented for celebrations and ceremonies.

Created by an act of the U.S. Congress in 1919, the Atlantic Intercoastal Waterway was completed in 1940. today, the U.S. corps of Engineers oversees maintenance of the route along with the Dismal Swamp Canal. Boaters often use this waterway as a safer alternative to the open Atlantic Ocean.
