Abstract:
At eight o'clock, on 17 March 1862, Confederate forces sent the blockade runner, Nashville from the protection of the ramparts at Fort Macon. Carrying 8,000 British Enfield Rifles, Confederate soldiers outran Union ships and headed south to deliver the much needed weapons.
