Christopher C. Fordham enrolled at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 1943. He received his M.D. from Harvard in 1951, and after service in the military and other university positions, he became dean of the School of Medicine at Chapel Hill in 1969. In 1980 he became chancellor of the university.

The North Carolina Mutual Life Insurance Company is the world's largest African-American financial institutions. The company is the 129th largest insurance company in the nation. It February 1982, the company will mark its 83rd year of operation.
