Abstract:
There are 25,000 North Carolina girls who get pregnant each year in a crisis that knows no boundaries. Last year, the General Assembly approved $19 million to fund local teen pregnancy projects – the first such program in state history. Legislators also established a study commission to review the sex education curriculum in North Carolina schools.

Abstract:
The history of the town of Dobbins Heights from 1969-1991 is explored through interviews by former and current residents. Special attention is paid to the process of incorporation, the creation of the local fire department, the town’s politics, and the tensions between the citizens and the county. The majority black citizens of Dobbins Heights express frustration at the inequality they face and explain its impact on the community’s growth.
