This article tells of the future opening of the Thad Eure Museum on the second floor of the old Gates County Court House in Gatesville, NC. Eure, who was born in Gates County, went to UNC-Chapel Hill, served in the US Army, was mayor of Winton, NC, and then served as NC Secretary of State from 1937 to 1987.

Norfleet McDowell became a licensed druggist in 1922 and purchased the former E.T. Whitehead Drug Store in Scotland Neck soon after to establish McDowell's Pharmacy. Grandson Joe McDowell and great-grandson Thomas now carry on the family business.

Mark Hoggard Jr. follows the influences and traditions for music inspired by his father Mark Hoggard Sr. His father was one of the best known performers with the Lighthouse Family Singers and Sounds of Joy. Mark Jr. made his debut with the Sounds of Joy. Now a member of the Harvesters,he has penned 25-30 songs, several of which were on the Southern Gospel charts.

Located along the Scuppernong River in Tyrrell County, Columbia is home for the Walter B. Jones Center for the Sounds, the Pococsin Arts School of Fine Craft and the Pocosin Lakes National Wildlife Refuge. Originally founded as Elizabethtown in 1793, it was renamed Columbia in 1801.
