Abstract:
Wild ponies are a distinct feature on the Outer Banks and can be seen from Oregon Inlet to Shackleford. These ponies are corralled annually to be sold to interested buyers. Though wild, these ponies can be broken for riding and light fieldwork. The article is a personal story told by the author about an occasion when he and his brother drove to the Outer Banks to purchase one of these ponies. The article includes details about the breed, the handlers, and the corralling events.
