Abstract:
North Carolina's largest Red Bay has been discovered in Wilmington. According to the North Carolina Division of Forest Resources, the tree has a circumference of 121 inches and an estimated crown spread of 46 feet. The Red Bay tree is far larger than the state's previous record holder. Red Bay is a native North American evergreen tree.

The company was founded in 1894, and incorporated in 1907, making it one of North Carolina's earliest corporations. G. Akers Moore, Sr. purchased the company in 1922, and it is now in the third-generation of ownership.

Eight of Duplin's ten incorporated towns lie on the Atlantic Coast Line Railroad and U.S. 117, including Wallace, Teacheys, Rose Hill, Magnolia, Warsaw, Bowdens, Faison, and Calypso. Kenansville stands west of the geographical center, while Beulaville lives alone in the mid-eastern section. A history of these towns and a profile of their individual industries and communities are illustrated in this article.
