Abstract:

The life and deeds of Davy Crockett are recalled in a few words in the song, \"The Death of Crockett.\" The song was found in an old songbook published in 1848 and set to a British tune, \"Anacreon in Heaven.\" Davy Crockett was born in North Carolina on August 17, 1786, in the period when the state lands extended all the way to the Mississippi River.
