Between 1762 and 1900, Northampton County, North Carolina was well known the horses it produced for breeding and for sport. The established breeding families of the area were able to recite with pride the pedigrees of their prized horses.

Details concerning the tax code are outlined as far as these concern agricultural and natural resources. Officials evaluated current codes and compared these to Virginia's tax system to relieve tax burdens on the state's farmers. Protecting agricultural land from encroaching urban development and increasing land value assessments was slated for review by the General Assembly the following year.

This article provides an account of a duel between hotel manager Daniel Dugger and Democratic congressman from Virginia George C. Dromgoole in 1837. The piece draws heavily from an account of the event printed in the Brunswick Gazette by Warner Lewis (AKA \"Monitor,\") on January 19, 1893, and is supplemented by Lewis' additional research, primarily focused on Dromgoole's life and character and on the nature of formal duels.

West Jefferson allowed the towns of West Jefferson and Morehead City to list, value, and re-value all property for the purposes of taxation separately from and without regard for valuation of property for purposes of state and county taxation.
