Edgar Hamilton is president and CEO of The First National Bank of Shelby. The bank is typical of many small-town, independent banks which have a history of going the extra mile to help someone. Hamilton did not begin his career with a banking job. He was employed by Westinghouse Electric Corporation but eventually decided he did not want his career to be one of being transferred from city to city. He joined the Shelby bank in 1961, becoming president in 1979, and then CEO in 1985. Hamilton is profiled in NORTH CAROLINA magazine's “executive profile.â€

Thomas Built Buses was founded in 1916 by Perley A. Thomas in High Point. Thomas was working for the Southern Car Company, and when that company went out of business, he started his own streetcar company. When streetcar use declined, he moved into the manufacture of buses. Today his grandson, John W. Thomas, Jr., is chairman, president, and CEO of the company, which turns out about fifty buses a day. Thomas is profiled in NORTH CAROLINA magazine's “executive profile.â€
