For this year’s Earth Day, the North Carolina Wildlife Federation is joining other environmental groups to plan a number of citizen outreach programs. They are promoting daily activities that can lessen human impact on the environment.

Environmental, community, and church groups in North Carolina are springing into action for Earth Day on April 22. The N.C. Wildlife Federation is emphasizing long-term behavioral changes to lessen our impact on the environment. They will promote environmental education in schools and work with educators to develop teaching materials.

Making Balsam Lake handicapped-accessible is an ongoing project of the U.S. Forest Service Highlands Ranger District and Physically Challenged Inc., a nonprofit group based in Sylva. The land, lake and lodge are now open to public use.
