The Kornegay family has five of their seven children who are ECU graduates, with four sons following their father, Hervy Kornegay, Sr., a 1957 graduate of Wake Forest University School of Medicine, into the medical field. The sons, Hervy, Jr., Chad, Todd, and Jon are all graduates of the ECU Brody School of Medicine and all four followed the school's primary mission--\"to increase the supply of primary care physicians to serve the people of Eastern NC.\"

East Carolina’s College of Education Partnership East Program allows students to complete the first two years of their education degree at participating community colleges. In providing students access to high quality education close to home, the program aims to keep those students in their communities after graduation.

East Carolina’s Bachelor of Science in Industrial Technology (BSIT) allows students to enter ECU with an associate degree and leave with a bachelor’s in one of eight concentrations from architectural and mechanical technology to manufacturing and health information. The program engages with community colleges to provide opportunities in growing industries.
