Abstract:
From 1917-1932, public education for African American children in Southern states was assisted through the Rosenwald Foundation. Out of a total of 5,300 schools built in the South through the foundation, North Carolina had the greatest number at 813 schools.

"What started as a single historic marker placed in 1921 to recognize Fort Fisher's role as a Civil War stronghold has now become a destination for travelers and history buffs at Kure Beach." A new Visitor's Center with the site opened in November 2024.

Significant restoration progress along the parkway has been made since Tropical Storm Helene debut in September 2024. Construction for the parkway began in September 1935 and interrupted for a period during World War II. by 1966, all but 7.7 miles of the project was completed.
