Edward Salter, Sr. had a Will dated Jan. 6, 1734 and he died on Feb. 1, 1734. He gave land to his daughter, Susannah Salter and to his son, Edward Salter, Jr. The land, known as “Duval Plains,” was granted to Lewis Duvall by Patent dated Apr. 10, 1715 and deeded to his daughter Martha Duvall on Sept. 11, 1728. Martha Duvall sold it to Edward Salter, Sr.

John Sparkman had a Will in Gates Co., NC leaving property to his two daughters, Mildred Eure and Susanna Smith. On Nov. 8, 1806, Susanna Smith, of Pitt Co., NC gave her power of attorney to her son, Noah Smith, of Pitt Co., NC. On Nov. 18, 1806, Noah Smith sold his mother’s share to Levy Eure, Whitmel Eure, and Lucresia Beaman, of Gates Co., NC, grandchildren of John Sparkman, decd.

Richard Lemuel Butt, b. 1856 in AL, was a son of Richard Lemuel Butt, Sr. and Eliza Charlotte Leonard; and grandson of Alston Butt and Mary Priscilla Ranks, of Meriwether Co., GA, The Butts settled near Tar River, NC from Wales about 1760. Moses Butt, the father of Alston, served in the Revolution and Moses Butt, Jr., served in the War of 1812.
