Children are suffering under economic conditions in NC. One out of four are facing hunger, the number of children suffering from abuse is rising, and the infant mortality rate is higher than the national average. Finding money for programs in the state budget is a matter of priority and legislators need to reevaluate their priorities thinking to help NC’s children

Many kids enjoy picking up rocks and there are many places in the Triangle area where they can find them. The area is part of the Triassic Basin and pieces of coal, petrified wood, and garnets, and even gold can be found in the area. Two of the area’s museums have interesting collections and several area parks have places where kids can add to their collections.

Educational reform is the subject of many in state legislature, but reform does not have to be left to politicians. Parents can get involved in their local schools and influence reform at the local level. Deanna Tebockhorst and the Bass family and their work in Triangle Area schools highlight the possibilities of parent led educational reform.
