Abstract:
At 6,684 feet Mount Mitchell is the highest peak east of the Mississippi River. Visitors are advised not to just drive up to the highest parking lot, get out, take a few pictures, and leave. Rather they may take in the dramatic scenery by trying out some of many hiking trails. Be aware that the weather which can fluctuate unexpectedly in a season and take appropriate safety measures.
