More sites are in the planning stages. the Blue Ridge Snorkel Trail gives the public the opportunity to experience beauty in the area and appreciate environmental preservation of the area rivers and streams. In the 18th century, what is now Alamance County was still part of Orange County. Alamance officially formed in 1849. In reference to the area's colonial history, Alamance Battleground State Historic Site provides in depth context on the history of the Regulator Movement of the early 1770s. Interesting also is Alamance's great tradition as leader in the textile industry, particularly Edwin Holt and the development of the Alamance Plaid, the first commercially woven colored cotton fabric mad in the American South.

Actress Ava Gardner was born in community of Grabtown, just outside Smithfield in Johnston County. It is noted Gardner never forgot her roots in the area and likewise her hometown never forgot her. A lifelong friend, Dr. Thomas Banks began a significant collection of Gardner memorabilia. The quest to showcase these materials began in the 1970s. a permanent home was found in 1981 and later permanent location in Smithfield in October 2000. The annual Ava Gardner Festival, celebrated the first weekend in October began in 2007.

Liver Mush is described as a blend of head meat, liver, cornmeal and various seasonings blended together to form a mush which is then refrigerated in rectangular pans forming bricks which are then cooked. the concept is thought to have derived from German immigrants.
