Abstract:
In a television interview, North Carolina Congressman Carl Durham discussed public hearings on the progress of nuclear energy in the United States. As the Congressional authority on nuclear power, Durham argued that despite the United State's dependence on oil and coal, the potential for a shift to nuclear power is highly likely, given the advances the country is making in the research.

Congress is considered a revisions of the original atomic law, Atomic Energy Act of 1946. North Carolina congressmen are heavily involved in the Congressional Atomic Energy Committee, which are attempting to make fundamental changes to the Nation's atomic energy program such as, increased cooperation among allies.

The state's Sixth Congressional District is made up of four counties--Guilford, Durham, Orange, and Alamance. Congressman Durham writes that despite the recently concluded war, the District's agriculture, banking institutions, manufacturing, and businesses are in a strong position to face the future. He includes a brief paragraph describing each of the four counties.
