Abstract:
This article examines the occurrence of African-American sponsored state-wide industrial fairs in the South during Reconstruction, particularly those sponsored by \"The Colored Industrial Association of North Carolina.\" Because the fairs held by the Association were the first of their kind in the South, Blackwelder suggests that they most clearly reveal the philosophy and motivations of all such undertakings, and appeared to be the most important and interesting. Rather than give a chronological account of the fairs, Blackwelder selected the 1886 events as representative of, \"all fairs preceding and succeeding it.\"

This article provides a history of the North Carolina Records Management Program starting from its establishment via a public records law in 1935. A detail of current holdings and purview is provided by the author, who was the supervisor of the Records Center of the State Department of Archives and History.

Abstract:
Finding historical information on North Carolina can be time consuming, and challenging. To assist in the search for research materials, the State Department of Archives and History has published pamphlets and books on the history of North Carolina, designed with the student in mind. The pamphlets tell the story of various aspects of the state's history, with pictures in several publications available for cut out and pasting in scrapbooks.
