Abstract:
North Carolina ranks 5th in the United States in watermelon production. Of more than 1,200 watermelon varieties, the vast majority are grown in North Carolina. Seedless watermelons were developed back in 1951. Noted in the article are the current watermelon festivals in the state and several farms devoted to watermelon production; namely, LizCo Farms in Rocky Mount, Howell Farming company in Goldsboro and Murfreesboro Farms.
