Abstract:
Danny and Kathryn McConnell are owners of McConnell Farms. The couple started fig trees in 2010 on two acres and ow have 68 varieties in production. Four years ago they initiated "Fig Fest", a two-day farm event featuring all things figs. Last year, the festival attracted 4,000 people.

Originally, the Land of Oz entertained visitors from 1970-1980. After going on hiatus, it came back in 1990. Today it holds an annual Autumn at Oz during three weekends in September. Autumn at Oz celebrates its 31st year this fall.

Abstract:
The species is one of two in North Carolina. In folklore, legends revolve around these squirrels having magical properties. A dense forest canopy provides perfect habitat for gliding by these animals, sometime nearly 150 feet in a single glide. Their special feature is a fur covered membranethat stretches from wrist to ankle.
