Abstract:
J. Carlyle Sitterson was appointed the new chancellor of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Prior to his new appointment Mr. Sitterson served the university as a faculty member for thirty years and an administer for eleven more. Beginning his new role at the university, Mr. Sitterson emphasized three goals; increase University's role in new intellectual endeavors, increase reputation amongst national institutions, and improve the state through university efforts.

Abstract:
Area representation refers to the principle of elected officials representing the greatest extent of individual communities within a population. This had been state policy since 1905 but a Supreme Court ruling placed emphasis on distribution amongst populations rather than geographies. Changes to government representation forced the General Assembly to hold an extra session in January 1966 and their findings and conclusions are analyzed in this piece.
