Abstract:

Bruce Shinn and a circle of local plant lovers initiated the effort to establish Asheville-Biltmore College Botanical Association. By 1961, the group had a designated tract of land, a 13-acre garden, that today contains more than 750 plant species native to the Southern Appalachians.
